It was a perfectly good New Years Eve. I got to sleep in, made breakfast and started to head down stairs to do laundry. About half way down the stairs I noticed the floor didn't look right. It appeared as though there was dirt on the floor because some of the carpet was different color. It then dawned on me: WATER. Our basement was flooding and it was water leaking that was causing the carpet to appear with a bit different color. I yelled upstairs for my husband. We then located the leak that was a toilet that was overflowing - thankfully with clean water...but water none-the-less. There was about an inch of water in the bathroom and it was leaking to the rest of the basement, faster than anyone would wish. After getting the water turned off, we began the clean up process. I remember knowing that we would have to get this water out as soon as possible so I began sucking it up with the shop vac and hauling up buckets.....what seemed to be hundreds of them...up the stairs and out the door. Then when we got most of it out, I started with our carpet cleaner to suck up the water in the carpet and again dump it. I heard my husband say to me, after he called a plumber, "I don't know how we are going to pay for this". I could hear the concern in his voice. To me it was a legitimate concern, but then I heard the Lord say to me..."This is NOTHING for God. After all, I flooded the whole Earth and then dried it out....surely I could do it for your little basement." It was then I was reminded of just how great our God is.
As I was vacuuming I then began singing a song we sing on our worship team:
"Shout Shout for Joy, Shout Shout for Joy...for the Lord has given you the victory! No weapon formed against you shall prosper, no kingdom raised against you shall stand. For the Lord is the Rock of my Salvation, we have overcome by the blood of the Lamb"
The more I sang, the faster I worked, AND with a smile on my face. I forgot about my circumstances and knew that everything would be okay. We had worked for hours, the plumber came, and finally we got the fans going and decided to stop for food. We then went over to my in-laws for something to eat. When I came home just before Tim, and I knew in my gut the carpet would need to come up...they were still too wet and were not drying. So I began the job cutting up sections of the carpet and pulling them up, along with the completely soaked carpet padding. I began hauling it outside. Tim got home then, and began helping me. We then really were able to get the basement dried out a bit easier, with the fans going, to make sure everything dries completely. We will be dealing with insurance tomorrow.
Throughout this ordeal, I realized that I didn't panic, I didn't even cry - not once. Instead, although I was not happy about what was happening, I reacted with a joyful attitude. PRAISE GOD!! I was thankful this was the path I had chosen. I also know that whining and complaining about something (a route I have taken many a time in the past) is much like a rocking chair: It keeps you busy but gets you no where.
Joy is a fruit of the spirit (Galatians 5:22), and God desires us to walk in joy no matter what happens. I think of Paul and Silas who were beaten with rods and thrown in prison (Acts 16:24-25). At midnight, they prayed and sang praises unto God and the prisoners heard them. They did this because they were happy despite their circumstances, and they trusted the Lord to take care of them and to help them get through the trials. At the midnight hour, when things look the darkest and we are able to realize who we serve and stand up and understand who we are in Christ - we need to start singing. PRAISE IS WARFARE! It confuses the enemy! It tears down walls of the "prison" built up around us. When the enemy has you oppressed - start lifting up the Name of Jesus! REJOICE!
What happens when you rejoice? Well I think if we knew what happens we would do it everyday. Rejoicing is an act of faith. In Paul's own words (Acts 27:25) "Cheer up...I believe God, that it shall be as He told me." When we believe God, we cheer up. Believing and rejoicing usher in the glory and goodness of God in your life. The Apostle Peter said it in 1 Peter 1:8 in this way:....yet believing, you rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory...even now you are happy with the inexpressible joy that comes from Heaven itself.
Joy is the secret of faith and endurance. Rejoicing will enable us to make progress in difficult times. James 1:2 says to : Count it all joy when trouble comes." This must be why Job laughed at destruction and trouble (Job 5:22). Of course some people will think you are insane, but with joy, you have found the secret of survival and success.
Joy has many facets, it is connected to God's presence, strength, salvation, the anointing, and Gods Word. Look at all the blessings of God that are connected to joy.
As a reminder: If Satan can steal your joy, than he can damage a lot of other things in your life JOY IS A CHOICE WE MAKE DAILY!!! Lets make it a habit, and make the choice to rejoice!
What is the foundation that your are letting yourself be built up with? Jesus or the trials and problems of this world? Are your putting your whole body and soul (mind, will and emotions) into serving the Lord? Is true Spiritual "Joy" , a part of your everyday life? If it is not, it can be. ;)

Are You Okay?
Today I was at the store, catching up on some very much needed grocery shopping. As I finished up, I eye-balled myself a line I felt would be shortest to wait in. In front of me was what appeared to be a single Dad with his 3 young children. His cart was full, his eyes were heavy and the kids were busy. His oldest son was the only one not busy and looking a bit pale. I could tell he either didn't feel well or was upset about something as he was wiping tears from his eyes. His Dad was moving as fast as he could to get the groceries up on the belt and keep the other two kids busy and in line. As he began to check out, his oldest son began to throw up. His Dad gave a big sigh and immediately raced to his sons aide to help, but had that helpless look. He said softly but sweetly, "I wish you would have listened to me, I knew it wasn't a good idea for you to eat that, are you okay?"
I felt such compassion for this man and his son, but I too was not sure how to help. Immediately the Holy Spirit brought to my attention the large package of paper towels in my cart. I tore open the package and handed the Dad a handful of paper towels. He looked at me so shocked and I assured him that it was okay, I was buying them anyway. He said "thank you so much". I then handed another handful to the boy so that he could wipe his mouth as his dad cleaned him off. After we had things cleaned up, the Dad again said to me with a relieved look, "you have no idea how much I appreciate your help, thank you." I said "oh sure, no problem, glad to help". As I was walking out to the parking lot and thinking about the words this man had said to his son, the Holy Spirit reminded me of how many times we have made choices against the better judgement of our Heavenly Father. Yet, when we are there dealing with the repercussion of the choices we have made, He is still right there to pick us up, clean us up, and ask us if we are okay . It made me think of the story of The Prodigal Son found in Luke 15:11-32 :
Jesus tells the story of a man who has two sons. The younger son asks his father to give him his portion of the family estate as an early inheritance. Once received, the son promptly sets off on a long journey to a distant land and begins to waste his fortune on wild living. When the money runs out, a severe famine hits the country and the son finds himself in dire circumstances. He takes a job feeding pigs. He is so destitute that he even longs to eat the food assigned to the pigs.

The young man finally comes to his senses, remembering his father. In humility, he recognizes his foolishness, decides to return to his father and ask for forgiveness and mercy. The father who had been watching and waiting, receives his son back with open arms of compassion. He is overjoyed by the return of his lost son! Immediately the father turns to his servants and asks them to prepare a giant feast in celebration.
Praise God for His forgiveness!!! When we make mistakes and whole-heartedly repent of them and come home, He will be there with open arms of forgiveness and mercy to pick us up, clean us off, and ask us if we are okay.

Remaining Calm
I was reminded of something today through an incident in an emergency situation where an ambulance had to be called and someone was taken to the hospital. This situation made me think of all the other times in my life throughout the years, that unfortunately, I was presented with a situation where I was needed to perform first aid/ or CPR on someone who needed it. Because of my profession,education and training over the years, I have been trained and certified many times in first aid/ CPR/ lifesaving etc..... Physical Education, Heath and Safety was one of my majors in college. You always hope and pray that you will never need to use it, but over the years I have encountered several times I have had to. Anything from a choking victim at a restaurant, to sports camp injuries, to car accident victims, and a few other instances in public places where I just happened to be the first one or one of the first responders' on the scene. Being trained in this area, there has never been a question of whether I will help or not, it is instinct to just jump in and do what needs to be done. I remember one particular instance in a roll over car accident with serious injuries. When it was all over, I was so shocked at how instinctively I knew what to do clear-headedly and was able to immediately delegate to those around what I needed and what to do until the ambulance arrived -( to God be the glory!). But one thing has stayed the same in all these instances and that was that somehow, some way, I was able to remain calm, which is the first thing you are taught in first aid/ CPR training.
Through all of this, the Holy Spirit reminded me that when we are dealing with life's stresses, emergencies or trauma, that FIRST thing we are also to do is remain calm. This was a great reminder for me. I wish I could sit here and say that in all my own life's situations I have also been able to remain calm. That is not the case unfortunately. As I get more and more engulfed in the Word of God however, the more "training" I receive, the more I remember that God wants us to also "remain calm" when the storm seems to be upon us. Whether its financial difficulties, illness, marriage or family difficulties, issues with work or even being out of a job etc... we are to remain calm.
How can we remain calm you ask? Although all these things going on are right in your face, staring you down like a mad bull, ready to take you down, you are to stand firm. Look that bull in the face (a.k.a. the enemy) and tell him to turn around and get right back in his pen and to stop snorting in your face because his breath stinks - in the Name of Jesus!!
1 Peter 5:8-9 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.
You see, God already has the victory....the enemy has already been defeated. What can we do instead of worry? Phillipians 4:8 tells us just how to think about such things. "Finally brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - is anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think on such things. I was reminded a couple of weeks ago of a great saying I have heard before, and it was a great reminder. "worry is like a rocking chair, it keeps you busy and gets you no where". Instead remind the enemy that he is defeated! He knows it, and so does the whole spirit realm. Don't give Satan and position in your life, instead see yourself with the authority of Christ.
Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—
Because of Christs death on the cross for us, we have the eternal victory!!! I know it is difficult when life's challenges are staring you right in the face, but remember that God sees the bigger picture, and the end still remains the same....we have the victory in Christ.
John 15:7 says " If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
So instead of going into a panic, remain calm. Don't respond with tears, but instead with the Word of God out of your mouth and REFUSE to stay in bondage.
Phillipians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus

Are You Doing it With All Your Might??
Well I can see its been awhile since I have posted...its been pretty busy. This last weekend I headed up with some friends and my family to lead praise and worship at a revival service at Trinity Church in Lapeer, Michigan. This was the church I grew up in, so many of my family members and people I have known since I was a child were there as well as others I just met on Sunday. It was such a blessing to be a part of such a service.
Leading Praise and Worship is still new to me. I have been a singer for many years, but leading such a thing as praise and worship is something completely in its own category.
I have known for quite some time that God was calling me to lead Praise and Worship as part of His plan for my life, this has been confirmed to me time and time again over the years. I have been blessed with the people he has placed strategically in my life, who have walked along side me as I continue to learn about praise and worship, and step out in faith.
Looking back to my childhood with my love to sing (to only myself) of course, as well as being fascinated with music in band, piano etc....I see where He was calling me back then into training. It’s too bad that I allowed myself to get side tracked with other things, and not having the confidence enough in myself to even think about speaking in front of others, let alone allow them to hear me sing - ha. Finally, I decided to stop running from Gods call and start pursuing it.
I remember years ago singing for the first time at my late husband Todd's request, as he had never heard me sing before but had heard from others that I could. As he sat their listening and then began to weep while I sang, I was taken back a bit. With tears in his eyes, he then asked me why I had not been sharing this with others. I didn't have an answer, other than I lacked the confidence to do so. I remember how much that comment/ compliment effected me. Then, 10 years ago, after my husband Todd died, I was singing on a praise and worship team for the first time. I remember the director telling me that when I would sing, she could tell it was healing to my soul. I know now, that it was a time in my life, that in many ways although still slightly upset with God for my circumstances, when I sang unto the Lord, it tore the walls down I had tried to place between us. When the walls were down, healing began in that area of my life. It still proves true today. No matter what is happening in my life, when I choose to sing praises unto my Lord letting go of whatever has a hold of me, it breaks down barriers, strong holds and sets me at a peace that passes all understanding. I have the victory.
Do I always feel like singing - definitely not, but when I let go and let God, and just enter into His presence....healing, whether mental, emotional, physically etc.. happens and I gain a confidence and a joy of the Lord that goes beyond words.
Praise and worship is not just singing... The word "worship" means to honor and give respect to a divine being or supernatural power. God claims worship as His exclusive right. "For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' " (Matthew 4:10). And yet through the ages men have worshipped many other things.
Worship is not something that is accidentally done. It requires conscience action on the part of the worshipper. "Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth"" (John 4:21-24).
Worship requires a worshipper. In other words, worship is an action taken by people. Worship also requires an object of worship, this is God. The worship must be done in proper spirit and it must be done in truth (as God commands).
Praise and worship is the means of entering God’s presence. “Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:1-4). Notice, “Come before His presence with singing” and “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise.”
Jesus promised He would always be with us (Hebrews 13:5); that His presence would be with us when we gather in His name (Matthew 18:20); and here we are promised that we enter the presence of God, in a very special way, when we are worshiping and praising Him. You can sense the presence of God in a very powerful way as you are worshiping. I have always been able to tell an express difference when I am putting all I have into my worship experience as opposed to when I am not. We enter the court room of heaven (the presence of God) through praise and worship.
When Moses left God’s presence his face was glowing (Exodus 34); As Solomon worshiped the Lord, the cloud of the glory of God so filled the temple that the priest could no longer stand to minister (1 Kings 8:11; 2 Chronicles 5:6; 7:1-4). What might it be like when we worship Him with all our might? How will we be affected by His presence? Every experience in God’s presence may be somewhat different. One thing I am assured of is that in His “presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore” (Psalm 16:11 NKJV).

Naked but Covered
This week I am on an adventure that I have been preparing for months in advance. I am up at BayShore Camp preparing to get together with a group of girls coming from all over, for volleyball camp. BayShore Camp is the Christian camp that has really been a legacy in the making for my family starting with my Grandma Wise who has since gone on to be with the Lord, and has moved through my family, and now my own kids attend. This year BayShore will celebrate 100 years as a Christian Camp and Family Ministry. As awesome as that is, however, more importantly, it was at BayShore Camp that I asked Jesus into my heart at age 9, and thus my personal relationship with Him began. I have been part of BayShore's camps for as long as I remember, first as a camper and then to anything from Athletic Director to counselor, to Co-Dean, to Head Coach at various camps over the years. This week is a week, however, that I will be wearing various hats. Along with coaching, I will also be speaking as well as leading worship. Although these are all things I have all done before in different realms, I have been spoiled with having live musicians for worship, as well as other voices to blend with. One of the many benefits to this is the "blending" part. :) Also, if I mess up and feel the "ship sinking", many hands at that point make lighter work.....and usually the "bailing of water" works easily and we are "back a float" without anyone noticing, most of the time. ;) When you are alone, however, ...well if the ship starts to go, its you who has to "bail it" alone :). This week I will have me, myself, I and some tracks to sing with, which will be a first to me to be completely alone to lead worship.
I have always been a girl who is up to the challenge and I believe in hard work. Praise God I have amazing friends who have not only prepared me physically, but have also helped to guide and prepare me mentally, emotionally and spiritually to be step out alone. The really cool thing is, however, that I am really not alone. This experience could very much feel like what it might be like to be thrown naked in front of a crowd. EEEKK! However, in 2 Corinthians 12:9 we are told that His Grace is sufficient.

So....because His grace is sufficient for me, I KNOW I will be covered in my weakness in just the right amount and in all the right places. I know it will all be whatever it needs to be for this week of camp as He is strong where I am weak. Today I Turn 41
Well today is my 41st birthday. So many things I could say about my life but I will sum it up with the word "blessed". God has me on an incredible journey and has surely blessed me along the way with a beautiful family as well as the many adventures He has me on.
For whatever reason it is 2am and here I sit wide awake. Often when this happens, it is because the Lord has woken me up to be in prayer. I have already been at that point tonight, as I have not been to sleep yet this evening/ morning, so instead I have been praying for so many people and situations. For some odd reason this time I cannot go back to sleep...so here I sit staring at my blog. Normally when I write, there is a purpose. I know there will be with this one too as I just continue to write. As I ask the Lord why I am still awake, the word "anxiety" immediately comes to mind. So many things on my plate right now....so many good things that my mind is racing over all I need to do. Some of my friends call that the "administrative" part of me. Ha ha! Do you ever get that way? One of the things on my mind is the fact that I am believing for a perfect job for me and my family, as both of my girls will be in school in the fall, and I am believing to get into a school doing something that I love to do, help students in one way or another. Next I am preparing for a week long camp, in the next couple weeks, where I will be speaking, singing, and also coaching volleyball....all things I love to do and am super excited about it. Trying to get all my "ducks in a row" for it over the last 6 months, however, has been a challenge while facing two computer crashes and having to start with my notes and music from scratch again. I have learned, however, the "save it on the flash drive" lesson finally. I have also recently been invited to a church in Michigan, to lead a praise and worship type service along with my friend Wayne playing guitar and singing, and with my husband Tim at my side, sometime in the next year (the date is pending). So you see, that even though these are all positive things (stimulus) I am seeing that the anxiety over it all is making my mind race. For all I know, as you are reading this, maybe you are dealing with your own anxieties in your life caused by your own life's stimulus....either good or bad. Lets see what the Bible says about anxiety:
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up” (Proverbs 12:25, NIV).

“…the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:26-28).
“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
2 Corinthians 11:23-12:10).
“So we say with confidence, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?’” (Hebrews 13:6).

So the Bible is very clear on dealing with anxiety in saying that we are not to carry it, but instead we are to cast all of our cares on Him. He also reminds us that we can do all things through Christ who is the One who gives us the strength we need in order to accomplish what has been laid in front of us. Praise God for His promises!!! So when those anxieties come...we need to cast those thoughts away and instead stay focused on and say aloud His promises and claim them right into our lives. So SPEAK 'EM OUT and step into the ZONE OF FAITH...knowing God has our back. And with that, I am going to bed to get some sleep. After all, its my birthday!! ;) Night all!!
For whatever reason it is 2am and here I sit wide awake. Often when this happens, it is because the Lord has woken me up to be in prayer. I have already been at that point tonight, as I have not been to sleep yet this evening/ morning, so instead I have been praying for so many people and situations. For some odd reason this time I cannot go back to sleep...so here I sit staring at my blog. Normally when I write, there is a purpose. I know there will be with this one too as I just continue to write. As I ask the Lord why I am still awake, the word "anxiety" immediately comes to mind. So many things on my plate right now....so many good things that my mind is racing over all I need to do. Some of my friends call that the "administrative" part of me. Ha ha! Do you ever get that way? One of the things on my mind is the fact that I am believing for a perfect job for me and my family, as both of my girls will be in school in the fall, and I am believing to get into a school doing something that I love to do, help students in one way or another. Next I am preparing for a week long camp, in the next couple weeks, where I will be speaking, singing, and also coaching volleyball....all things I love to do and am super excited about it. Trying to get all my "ducks in a row" for it over the last 6 months, however, has been a challenge while facing two computer crashes and having to start with my notes and music from scratch again. I have learned, however, the "save it on the flash drive" lesson finally. I have also recently been invited to a church in Michigan, to lead a praise and worship type service along with my friend Wayne playing guitar and singing, and with my husband Tim at my side, sometime in the next year (the date is pending). So you see, that even though these are all positive things (stimulus) I am seeing that the anxiety over it all is making my mind race. For all I know, as you are reading this, maybe you are dealing with your own anxieties in your life caused by your own life's stimulus....either good or bad. Lets see what the Bible says about anxiety:
An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up” (Proverbs 12:25, NIV).

Are You Willing?
What did you want to be when you grew up?? God's dreams are often much bigger than we could imagine for ourselves, or sometimes smaller which is sometimes harder to swallow...let me explain.
Take a look at all the reality shows that are going on today...American Idol, America's Got Talent, Biggest Loser. We seem to live in a world where the focus is to be that you are only "valuable" if you are only the best at something, or the center of attention etc...... This is a lie from the Devil. So in our world, it has been easy to lose sight of our TRUE value in the will of God.
In Acts chapter 9, Saul is wreaking havoc in the churches and those following "The Way", throwing people into jail and threatening slaughter. Because of this, many of the Christians fled to Damascus. Saul himself received arrest warrants to take to meeting places to arrest those Christ followers and bring them back to Jerusalem. On his journey he was dazed by a blinding light from heaven that caused him to fall onto the ground and heard "Saul Saul, why are you persecuting me?!" He said "who art though Lord?" The Lord said "I am Jesus the one you persecute, now go into the city to straight street to the house of Juda and you will be told what to do next". The men with him were speechless (they heard the voice and saw nothing). Saul was blinded.
He went into the city and didn't eat or drink anything for 3 days. The Lord then spoke to Ananias and told him to go and lay hands on Saul, heal him and baptize him. Ananias was unsure and questioned God. God told him "GO! Saul is a chosen vessel to bear my name before Gentiles, Kings and children of Israel. For I will show him great things he must suffer for my names sake". Ananias went and did as he was told. The scales fell off of Saul's eyes, he was baptised and ate. After this he went to preach Christ in the synagogues. After this we do not hear anymore from Ananias. Ananias was called by God to do a job, and God needed him to be obedient.
When you look at a door, what is the first thing you notice? Most people would see the largest part of the door, that part that either leaves an opening, or could close an opening in a wall. Most of us do not notice the hinges, unless for some reason something bring the hinges to our attention. In our world, our churches, and all over the place, there are tons of doors and hinges, but I am not talking about the kind on or in buildings. What is God calling you to be, a door or a hinge? The kingdom moves forward based upon how YOU hear Gods voice. Being a "hinge" may mean less recognition, but are you willing to be great or small for God? "Hinges" often get overlooked or and get less "recognition" than "doors" do, but that does not mean their value is less. If you have ever noticed, there are usually 2 to 3 hinges with every door. The truth is, that a door cannot work properly without hinges. God needs hinges just as much as He needs doors. In our "American Idol, Americas Next top Model, etc.... world, we often lose sight of that. So how do we know what God is asking of us?
God pursues us, He is not passive. Just like He spoke to and used Ananias, He speaks to us in His Word, prayer times, quiet times, circumstances, and church. When God communicates to you, you have to adjust to His plan, as Gods plans for your life will probably require some adjustment on your part. You may have to step out, get over fears, and get out of your comfort zone and into the faith zone. So what is God trying to accomplish in your life? Are you willing? Can you be obedient to the mission? Where is God working, and how can you be a part of it?
You may not see the full effects of being a willing to be a "hinge" for God until years later, or even until you get to Heaven. Are you willing?
